Seismic shut off valve here is a type of valve that is sensitive to earthquakes. This type of valve is designed to close or shut down the gas flow automatically in the event of an earthquake. Designed as such, it is intended to prevent the flow of gas from entering the structure where the gas flows so that if an earthquake occurs, unwanted damage such as fire or explosion does not occur. Seismic shut off valve does not use an internal or external power source. They are designed to stay closed until reset manually. Valve to be installed in the gas line in the upstream or downstream part of the gas line pressure regulator and the gas meter. This valve does not replace the manual upstream shut-off valve provided on the gas service line.
Seismic shut off valve consists of setting a swing check valve with a trigger mechanism sensitive to acceleration. The trip mechanism consists of a steel ball resting on a tapered cup-shaped support. The horizontal movement of the earthquake causes the ball to move from the center of the support. This allows the ball mass to act on the movable pipe of the trip mechanism, activates the valve and initiates closure. The spring helps the valve cover to close and the gas pressure helps hold the valve disc in the closed position. The travel mechanism is factory regulated and sealed. A sight glass is provided so that the Open or Closed indicator can be seen, and the trip mechanism status of the valve can be easily determined.
